PREMIERE: The Balanced - Egoxiety

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a self-released debut track of Kyiv based DJ and electronic musician Dmytro Sydelnykov aka The Balanced. As the artist describes, The Balanced combines two opposites in one - dark and bright, joy and sadness, action and creation. The idea is about self-control and directing yourself only to where the soul calls, discovering new manifestations.

Creating music since 2011, Dmytros’ taste has been shaped by the different sounds of funk, jazz, soul, disco and old school hip-hop. Also, the producer finds his inspiration in the soundtracks of movies and video games, identifying himself with the characters of cinematic pieces.

In the last months, the artist has settled himself in old school Chicago house and Detroit techno, which significantly influenced his music taste while creating the composition “Egoxiety”, an energetic techno banger with an original authentic sound using synthesizers and drum machines of Chicago & Detroit eras, delivering nostalgic vinyl moods with a modern touch. Combining vocals with melodic elements from different music genres, this track immediately takes your mind and body to the void of the mystical cellars of underground realms. Also, it harmonically sounds on both high and low bpms, making you plunge into sweet dreams and joyful spiritual euphoria.

As the artist describes, “Egoxiety” is a newly created tool to perceive the world and yourself within it. It’s about the “right now” feeling, letting go, releasing your mind and being here and now.

Out on Bandcamp in digital formats. Make sure to get yours.

The Brvtalist x Krake Festival presents: Annechoic (Mix + Q&A)

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Annechoic. This is a special edition mix in collaboration with Berlin's Krake Festival which is taking place this week from November 11 - 14. The annual fest has been an integral part of Berlin's event scene for several years, utilizing the cities diverse array of venues, clubs and talent.

After last year's fully digital fest, Krake returns this year with a hybrid event - existing both virtually and IRL, with a massive club event happening on Friday at Anomalie Art Club with a huge lineup. Ahead of the festival's opening we are thrilled to present this special mix from the great Annechoic, showing off her electro-infused skill set and diverse sound selection. We also present a great Q&A with the artist who is playing Friday night! (see below)

The Brvtalist: Tell us about the mix you made today.

Annechoic: Hey, firstly thanks for the invite! This mix is pretty much what you can expect from me in a club at the moment. It starts on my dreamier side and develops into darker percussive moments, a kind of atmosphere with the energies i'm currently into.

Although I'm probably more known for electro productions and edits, and have been sometimes pigeonholed as an electro dj only, the truth is that I like to play all kinds of music and my sets are quite varied. This one is basically the kind of music I love to hear in a club and it's what makes me sweat on a dance floor.

TB: I would also love to know what kind of tracks/sounds are you enjoying playing out in clubs these days?

A: Well, I think with my mixes you can get a little bit of an idea of what I like to play. A bunch of electro, acid, breaks, techno... new and old stuff.

Talking about records that I have in my record bag for my last few gigs? Interviews, Terence fixmer, 4cantons, The advent, Arcanoid, Serge Geyzel, Maenad Veyl, Sansibar, Planetary Assault Systems, Disx3, , Ultrahigh, Maelstrom, Phuture 303, An-I, Morah....

Annechoic

TB: You've been active since the early 2000's involved with different labels and projects, working a lot in the background. Do you still prefer this role vs. being more of an artist in the spotlight? (P.S. the former is definitely my preference!)

A: Certainly, the former is my preference too! I can be extremely shy and I don't like being the center of attention...I've even spent many years playing at home or with friends, just because I liked it, without having the need to get on stage or show my face to the world.

Times change and offers have been good; but yes, I've been fighting even with myself just for the fact of having this interview haha!

TB: How are you feeling now that more things are opening back up? Do you think in some ways we had a necessary reset?

A: Well, it's a weird but nice feeling. I do have to say that I felt completely overwhelmed the first time I went to a party - having such a crowd of people around but at the same time it's nice to be able to be back in a bar/club chatting or having a beer with your friends.

And yes, I think in a way we had a necessary reboot. Like rethinking our priorities or having more appreciation for the little things in life (like the need for a simple hug or going to a bar with your friends). Or new creative ways of showing/enjoying different types of art like music. How life has taken a 180-degree turn in many ways is an interesting phenomenon.

TB: What can we expect at Krake on Friday?!

A: I'm pretty excited about the upcoming set now! I'll play before FM Einheit & Caspar Brötzmann's live set so it's one of those times when you get a chance to play the things you love that you can't normally play in a club. Expect more of a listening set than a body music set.

TB: What's coming up next?

A: Well, the last few years have been pretty hard for me, especially the last one and not just because of the pandemic, but more on a personal level, so I'm still struggling/overcoming a lot of things and slowly getting back to normal.

However, now that all the storm is passing I’m returning with enough energy to finish the many projects I have pending (finally!).

I can't reveal much of what's coming with Annechoic but I'm working on more music (after a frustrating break due to an accident and having lost practically all my old files) and there will be more projects coming on different labels. It is also true that having a full time job I haven't had much time to dedicate to this either so everything comes slowly.

On the other hand, I'm working on a couple of projects with good friends, for example another alias with my dear Manuela Mayoral and although this has just started I'm very excited to be part of my new Enigma family. So for the moment I'm looking forward to all the new things to come.

Recent Arts (Tobias Freund & Valentina Berthelon) The History of Darkness Enigma AV Podcast | Ep. 03

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere Episode 03 of the Engima A/V podcast series. “The History of Darkness” is an Audiovisual installation that takes you on a trip into a universe of astronomical images and sounds. The visual work is mainly based on old photographs, drawings and diagrams of the cosmos taken from old astronomy books. The work highlights the beauty and simplicity of low-fidelity material by using images created without the technological tools available nowadays. Visual representations of the universe have the power to show stages of our evolving self-awareness as a species. Starting from this idea, the artists talk you through different chapters about the never-ending impulse to understand ourselves and the universe that surrounds us.

Recent Arts is a duo conformed by visual artist Valentina Berthelon and musician Tobias Freund. Together they build live performances using video projections and experimental sound –charged with symbols, stories and poetry– thus generating sound environments that invite to enjoy the music while deeply connecting with our perceptions of the world and our sense of realities within it. The soundscapes are not based on concrete musical structures but rather on experimenting and improvising.

VELVET VELOUR - PEARLAMUTROM *Video Premiere*

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere the new music video from VELVET VELOUR. “Pearlamutrom” is the first single in which she sings in her mother tongue, Russian. It’s a rare specimen of stylish electronic noir and immaculately elegant visuals. This time the Moscow synth diva investigates nacre sea-dreams and crimson deeps of passion – classic and quite kabbalistic duality of strangers’ inland oceans hidden inside their solid coquillages. Sensual vocals, pulsating rhythm and seductive melodies included.

Krake Festival 2021 Annoucement

Krake, one of Berlin’s most celebrated festival returns for another excellent edition this November! Following up last year’s all virtual fest, this year the team is back with a hybrid format featuring a huge club night + digital streaming events for a totally unique festival experience.

This year’s edition kicks off on Thursday 11th November with a 6-hours showcase on HöR. The lineup comprised of residents, friends, and family demonstrates the diverse spectrum within the field of electronic music.

On Friday, 12th November, the main event begins with a big bang at midnight. Einstürzenden Neubauten founder FM Einheit opens the stage with an extremely rare concert, in which he uses steel springs, gravel and all kinds of other material making noise, together with experimental guitarist Caspar Brötzmann. Two exceptional musicians, who reject any traditional musical guidelines to focus entirely on the exploration of sound.

Over 3 floors and the course of the night as well as the following day Krake Festival presents a variety of live acts and DJs, who cross boundaries: From electro legend Umwelt’s debut Berlin live show to the ambient house feel of techno crooner Kahn with his Super-8 project. Dis Fig, who recently released an album with The Bug, showcases her mix of experimental noise to her outstanding voice, Soda Kids bring electro-jacking funk and Leibniz comes forward with his unique take on future bass music.

That’s not to mention the DJs: Neither Helena Hauff nor CJ Bolland need any further introduction to electronic music fans: Two of the most electrifying DJs on the planet, whose outputs defy conventional pigeonholing. With talents such as Solid Blake, Luz1e, S. Ruston, Hanno Hinkelbein, Wes Baggaley, Bad Boy Electric and Mister Willis & Sparkling Water Dreams the Krake Festival’s line-up encompasses electro, acid, jungle, ghetto, techno and all the spaces in between. DJ Locati & Bläck Dävil (Live), recent graduates from the Ickmachwelle project, start-off Room 2 by presenting their musical visions for the first time ever. Warning and Strictly Strictly, two Berlin-based party crews and labels that continuously bring good vibes, take over Room 3 for the night. The final line-up still being confidential, be sure to expect surprise acts next to wild b2b actions between residents.

Helena Hauff - Day 2

Last but not least, get ready for a solid stream of silliness and side events to kill your boredom! A famous DJ autograph session that may or may not be what it sounds like, a swap kiosk where you can bring anything you would like to get rid off, be it a carpet or a chewing gum… plus more to be conjured in the weird minds of the Krake team.

As a continuation of our Multi-Stream Rave concept from last year, Krake will host live-streams from a number of our partner floors in different venues via our website next to the main live event. FOLD, one of London’s coolest clubs, the infamous and iconic Berlin venue SAMEHEADS, and a crazy boat party in France organised by the people behind Urban Spree are getting ready for your viewing pleasure. On top of this, the legendary Transistors of Mercy join forces with the visual artist Pixelflowers to present “Colourful Blackout”, a one-off, never to be repeated streamed event which, in their own words, will be “a temporary network of integrated sound-producing elements - circuits, capacitors, oscillators, filters and human intentions”.

Sunday 14th November is an opportunity to exhale and decompress with a full day program of ambient and experimental live acts and DJs streamed directly into your living room. It starts with a rare performance by Moon Armada, a live act performing on self-built puppet synthesizer, followed by a DJ set of Baby Vulture, who likes to take her audience on dark trips through her very own universe. Vinyl, Terror and Horror build sound collages with broken records on damaged record players, while An-I’s multi-dimensional sets bloom in multicolor. Masma Dream World is a multi-disciplinary artist and sound therapist, known for her otherworldly and haunting exploration of the shadow side. The expected intensity of her performance is soothed out by a set of Berlin nightlife’s spirit animal Wunderwaffel.

Krake TV returns presenting artist features, music videos, our annual Krake Tombola Raffle and “Wes Works It Out”. This time around, instead of guiding you through a fitness techno workout in drag, Dr. Wes is ready to hear and respond to all your life problems on our first Krake TV call-in talk show.

PREMIERE: Kovyazin D - Dark Shades Of Moscow (System 108

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a track from the Moscow-based electronic musician, DJ and resident of System 108 - Kovyazin D.

Founded in Moscow in 2015, System 108 is a record label, booking agency and event promoter, focusing on merging multidisciplinary arts and launching local and international electronic dance events, defining itself by the sounds of post-industrial, techno, electro, dark disco and house. Kovyazin D. is one of the most recognizable Russian artists on the modern EBM and electro scene. His name has appeared alongside such artists as Phase Fatale, Cardopusher, Black Merlin and many more.

“Dark Shades of Moscow” is the first track off of his forthcoming 4-track EP of the same name. Available in vinyl and digital formats, the EP includes a remix by French EBM producer, David Carretta as well as a feature by Moscow-based artist Vortex Abrax. As the producer describes - the EP is dedicated to Moscow’s winter and isolation. Forced by the pandemic, this led to solitude and strong feelings of loneliness which also made a significant impact on the artists’ creativity, his self-exploration and as a result - a new way of self-expression.

With the track “Dark Shades of Moscow”, Dmitriy takes us on a night walk through the cold, lonely and dark Moscow, discovering the most hidden and secret places of the city and of our inner selves. The artist dips us into a utopian journey of slow hypnotic, dark analogue synths and EBM-rhythms, added with distant whispering phrased vocals “Dark Shades of Moscow” and acid elements, which in combination with claps create a will to dance. Every following track on the EP is a unique narrative of both conflict and coexistence between an emotional hurricane and calmed intuition, which serves as an inner compass to provide us through the darkest and coldest nights. Each track has its own mood and message. This is a great EP which fuses old school body and electro with a modern touch. It’s the perfect companion to heat up those icy Moscow nights and dark warehouse dance floors.

Out November 5th on vinyl and digital formats. Get yours on BANDCAMP.
