New Brvtalism No. 187 - Pris

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Pris. The Berlin-based DJ, producer and co-founder of Empathy, delivers a razor sharp mix fueled by cybernetic rhythms and high speed tekno experimentations. We also take a look at Pris’ latest EP, New Babylon, below.

Pris - New Babylon EP (EMPATHY)

Empathy is a recently launched mixed media project between Pris and his close friend and enigmatic house producer Deejay Astral (Steel City Dance Disc’s, Shall Not Fade, Who’s Susan) who worked alongside Pris for their previous imprint, Resin, providing art direction. It marks an exciting new chapter for Pris who has recently released on labels including Non Series, Avian, Semantica, Envra and Propaganda Moscow.

New Babylon is the first release on the imprint and represent’s the duo’s emphasis on limited physical format, releasing only 25 records on 180 gram vinyl and produced locally by Disc Archive Berlin. The music showcases Pris’ refined approach to production and the tracks transmit a highly sophisticated take on other worldly technology and digital enslavement. This is an excellent EP from the beautifully agonizing “Corruption” to the deep atmospheres of “Kink” and terminating with the glistening sounds of “Vanity”. Listen and pick this one up now on vinyl and digital here:

June Projects at Paris Fashion Week

For those who will be in French capital this week for the always exciting Paris Men’s Fashion Week be sure to catch the collection launch of June Projects. Titled “catharsis”, the collection's narrative is derived from the Catharsis Theory and some Sartre passages from No Exit.

Artistic Director Jamie Parkhurst has crafted a striking collection of casual yet sophisticated garments infused with a laid back California attitude. From chic leather jackets and bombers to workwear inspired tops (and bottoms), we also appreciate the catharsis theme and love the imagery on the tees and sweatshirts.

New Brvtalism No. 186 - Katie Rex

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Katie Rex. The New York City-based DJ, producer and event innovator has made a name for herself both on and off the dance floor with her dynamic sets and community focused programming from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and beyond.

With roots beginning in the Philadelphia rave scene, her passion for the underground has crossed genre boundaries and culminated into an in-depth knowledge of music and cultural trends after dark. Her sets fuse industrial sonic landscapes with club inspired drum patterns for a unique blend of playfulness with the harsher sides of techno. She's shared the bill with top artists across genres, staying true to her passion for progressive sounds. Since 2016, Rex has curated the formidable event series turned lifestyle platform, BOUND. As a proud BOUND alumni and long time collaborator, The Brvtalist can personally attest to Rex’s passion and forward thinking approach to club nights and we are honored to have her contribute to our series.

New Brvtalism No. 185 - Bloody Mary

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Bloody Mary. The French-born, Berlin-based artist is an accomplished producer, live act, label-owner of Dame-Music and DJ - stunning clubs, festivals and crowds all over the world with her killer vinyl sets for well over a decade. Her installment for New Brvtalism is an electrifying journey through her vast musical spectrum which includes techno, wave, acid, electro and beyond.

Below we also take a look at the upcoming release on Dame-Music by Tim Taylor and DJ Slip.

Tim Taylor and DJ Slip - Pleasure Unit

Next up on Dame-Music is not only an incredible track but also a fascinating backstory. Originally released in 1998, Pleasure Unit was born out of a collective of artists in Minneapolis, MN. A year earlier, Tim Taylor was building a mobile studio and collaborating with local modular systems freaks. Pleasure Unit is the result of one of these collaborations and the artists always intended to revisit the project and track again. 21 years later Dame-Music gives this hardware masterpiece a new release, freshly remastered by Thomas Heckman and now with new remixes by Bloody Mary and Jerome Hill.

The original is a timeless hardware sonic assault, capturing the listener with tractor beam like force, leaving no one alive. Bloody Mary blows off the lid with even more raw energy and Jerome Hill provides a commanding work which hypnotizes the mind. This one comes out on vinyl July 5th and digital July 19th. New Brvtalism No. 184 - Mick Harris

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Mick Harris. The Birmingham-born artist has become one of the most prolific and inspirational figures of the past four decades - originally as the drummer for Napalm Death and then on to other innovative projects like Scorn, Fret and much more. For this installment, we get a fascinating glimpse into the mind workings of Harris as he digs into his collection of influences and interests in this exclusive mix for Brvtalist. Nodding at various reference points with some curveballs and surprises thrown in, which, in retrospect, make sense as to what shapes his sound.

Also be sure to pick up Mick Harris presents Fret - Salford Priors Versions, out now on Combat Recordings / Opal Tapes, featuring remixes from Fausten, Stormfield, Monster X and Scald Process. Order the record here: https://combatrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/salford-priors-versions

New Brvtalism No. 183 - DJ Sacred

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from DJ Sacred. Considering the current state of affairs in the art of music on the Internet, it seems that any boundaries between mass and elitism, the mainstream and the underground, have long since been destroyed - especially when looking at modern hip-hop. Dropping the conveyor product from our sample, you hardly notice the difference between an average popularity artist and a simple self-taught artist who sells his or her music through Bandcamp. However, there is a very small proportion of people for whom there is a single border that is really worth breaking. This border does not lie in the market or media plane. This is the border of genre - and these people are trying to destroy it with the help of experimental music. Today we are talking about Ukrainian artist Alex Yatsun, also known as DJ Sacred, a musician who tries to exist regardless of the current state of affairs.

Starting his career as a producer for Doomshop Records, he worked hard on his sound. It seems that the quality of performance leaves much to be desired, however, as Alex says, progress is not in technology, but in developing a more accurate interpretation of ideas. “The manner of performance doesn’t have an ideal. We are aware of this in contemporary visual art at an intuitive level. Now it’s time for music.”

His last work, Dungeon Rap, is a junction of two genres close to each other: Memphis Rap and Dungeon Synth. Moody, drawn out from cheap cassettes, the melodies are rather eclectically combined together, pour it all on top of the escapism taken from the CRPGs and Roguelikes games.

Introduction to Dungeon Rap is out now on Manchester’s Natural Sciences.

Krake Festival 2019

The Brvtalist is pleased to present the first announcements of Krake Festival 2019. For the second year, we are proud to be an official media sponsor of this vital Berlin festival organized by our friends at Killekill. As the name implies, the festival spreads its tentacles out over multiple days and venues across the city, presenting different styles and challenging the genres of electronic music.

This year’s festival opens on Monday, July 22nd at Silent Green, a former crematorium which is now used as an art and cultural space. Night one will host Dasha Rush, one of the most important contemporary techno artists. For this event she will perform an experimental collaboration with a live instrumentalist - the perfect fit for the octagonal domed room. On Wednesday, the festival moves to Griessmuehle, where Paula Temple will present the first showcase of her label, Noise Manifesto, which will feature a lineup that is at least 50% female, trans, non-male, non-conforming or queer identifying.

On Friday, July 26th, we are back at Urban Spree for the always important label market which will feature over 100 labels offering an eclectic array of sounds. The same night will feature an all star lineup at the venue which will see Berlin’s body music heroes Schwefelgelb, The Horrorist, Petra Flurr and more. The next night we’re back at Griessmuehle for a massive event which will go through Monday and feature some of our favorite artists of the past, present and future. The lineup includes:

Dopplereffekt *live
Otto Von Schirach
Jensen Interceptor
Alienata
Jasmine Azarian
Tara in Tibet *live
and many more…..

In addition the all the acts, you can also expect DIY synth workshops, giveaways and lots more. As a sponsor, The Brvtalist will run some great features and special mixes from participating artists. You can also expect some great promos and other great things in store. The best news is this is only the first announcements with even more madness to be revealed in the coming weeks.
