UY Studio Backstage

The Brvtalist is pleased to present exclusive backstage photos from UY Studio. Recently, our longtime collaborators and Berlin-based fashion label released, Berlin Waves, a new campaign showcasing their Spring/Sumer 2019 collection. The campaign celebrates the core values of the label which include freedom, queerness and gender fluidity. In addition, Waves is particularly special as UY invited the models the style themselves in order to bring their own personalities to the UY experience. The backstage photos capture some of the raw energy and candidness of the shoot while also beautifully displaying the clothes.

The Spring/Summer 2019 collection carries a certain freshness while staying true to UY’s dark, monochrome stylings. As always, the items are gender neutral and use a variety of quality materials all handcrafted by some very talented designers and seamstresses. We love the look of the khaki trenches and of course the headgear looks fantastic.

Area Z: Zero + Savage Cult

There are few things we love more than multi-disciplinary projects and collectives. The Brvtalist has always supported artists who operate outside of confined boundaries, genres and mediums. Area Z is a prime example. The emerging group is a non-profit DIY collective and independent record label run by Thomas Schall, Pablo Bozzi, Thomas Rcd and Arthur Bdt from Toulouse, France. Primarily operating within the realms of EBM, techno, industrial and noise, the imprint has already released stand out material from Sarin, Unhuman, Tomohiko Sagae, Elements of Joy (UVB alias), Crystal Geometry, Unconscious and most recently Savage Cult (which we examine below).

While the label’s tape and vinyl releases have already made waves, late last month the collective presented Zero, a limited tee shirt run designed by Arthur Bdt and released in conjunction with German second-hand/street wear shop Cologne Street Market. Inspiration for the shirts came from Zero, a post-war movement which sought to push the boundaries of artistic mediums and create works which aim to distort and not decorate. The campaign images and video (below) perfectly achieves this goal - fusing radical intentions and industrial atmospheres. In addition, each shirt comes with a download code which includes four track from residents and friends of the label including A.T.T.CORP (Templer + Incendie), Blime Dust, Foreign Policy and VU.

Savage Cult - Unknown Banner

The latest tape from the label side comes from fellow frenchman Savage Cult. As the name implies, the artist crafts heavy, ritualistic industrial soundscapes which penetrate deep into the psyche for a hypnotic rush to the senses. Unknown Banner delivers 5 original tracks and two remixes from Hypnoskull and Templer. From the thrilling tribal drums of “Warpaint Ritual” to the massive, cinematic work of “The Secret Grave” these tracks shatter all boundaries and are as equally at home with techno and black metal fans alike.

Unknown Banner is another powerful release in a very good group of recent tapes which also feature Brvtalist favorite Unconscious and more. You can pick up the digital above and for the physical head to Area Z’s page here. There is much more in store from Area Z and you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on this collective.

New Brvtalism No. 176 - The Long Count Cycle

The Brvtalist is proud to present a mix from The Long Count Cycle. The New York City based duo is a pillar of the community in Brooklyn and well beyond - known for their mind bending sets, involvement with some of the region’s most important events and even playing Rural festival in the mountains of Japan. Appropriately named, The Forest Grove Reality Fork, New Brvtalism No. 176 represents a session that was meant to be presented at last year’s Sustain Release, but due to unforseen circumstances, never happened. Be that as it may, we could not be more thrilled to share this 2.5 hour odyssey through various shades of house, ambient and other worldly sounds for an absolutely massive contribution which is sure to rattle your sense of time and space. As the duo writes, The Long Count Cycle is here to give shape to The Void when needed. It has been said that the internal knows no bounds. With this in mind, we seek total immersion...

Be sure to also pick up their new tape out now on the always superb Bank Records.
