A Facebook page has emerged with photos of Cambiare, a new bar in Toyko’s “Golden Gai” district in Shinjuku, which is inspired by Dario Argento’s classic, “Suspiria.”

From what we can see, it looks like they have a lot of the elements there - the stained glass, floral wall paper, Argento style lighting, and the abstract floors. Well done!

R.I.P. Martin Lloyd

Martin Lloyd, one half of 80’s electronic pioneers Oppenheimer Analysis, passed away in April of liver failure, he was 63. Lloyd, with his band mate Andy Oppenheimer, formed Oppenheimer Analysis in the early 80’s and went on to release highly influential material such as 1982’s “New Mexico”.

The duo recently reunited and perennial favorite Minimal Wave has released some of their earlier work. He was truly prolific and will be missed.

PANDEMONIA

Pandemonia is a very tall, very plastic, very ironic piece of art. Covered head-to-toe in Latex, the shiny beauty queen is the epitome of a public obsession with surfaces. - iD

Pandemonia began publicly displaying her work over 4 years ago, appearing front row at fashion shows and at high profile events.

Pandemonia with Jerry Hall.

Pandemonia and Pam Hogg.

Pandemonia describes herself as “packaging artificiality and lack of content”, in the same way perhaps as Warhol’s Campbell Soup cans. Both are indicative of a consumerist society, both are icons of modern art and advocates of the Pop genre. -iD

We can’t get enough! Discover more Panadmonia on her blog:

"Gate to Hell" Discovered in Turkey

A group of Italian archaeologists have uncovered what is known in Greco-Roman mythology as the “Gate to Hell” in Southwest Turkey. Known primarily as “Pluto’s Gate”, this site was considered the portal to the underworld.

The mysterious opening was filled with lethal vapors so dense that any animal who entered would die instantly. Also uncovered was an amazing site of ruins which include Ionic columns and an inscription with a dedication to the deities of the underworld — Pluto and Kore.

According to lore, small birds were given to pilgrims to test the deadly capabilities of the cave and hallucinated priests would sacrifice bulls to Pluto.

Definitely a fascinating discovery and a good addition to your global tour of ancient wonders.

Available now for pre-order via Mount Analog is Jealous God 01 - SS/S (Silent Servant & Svreca) - Sicario De Dios 12” / Booklet / Mix CD.

http://www.climbmountanalog.com

The venture (Jealous God) will be directed and run by Karl O’Connor (Regis), with Juan Mendez, AKA Silent Servant, working as visual director and Ruskin holding the title of music director. It falls under the umbrella of O’Connor’s long-running Downwards label (which recently launched a North American division). As with Mendez and O’Connor’s previous project, Sandwell District, Jealous God looks likely to be more than an average record label: its mission statement says the goal is to “question the here and now,” and is “intended for the mutants of our age.”

The first release is a 12-inch called Sicario de Dios from SS/S, a collaboration between Silent Servant and Semantica chief Svreca. This will be followed by a record from Ruskin, then further releases from Silent Servant in solo mode (with a Powell remix), O/V/R (AKA Regis and James Ruskin) and Minimal Wave regulars In Aeternam Vale. Each release will be accompanied by an art zine, while the first 100 will also feature an additional product—or “artifact”. The first record comes with a tote bag, the second with an engraved logo dagger, and the third with a military logo badge.

Jealous God follows on from the closure of Sandwell District, the collective that O’Connor and Mendez ran with Dave Sumner, AKA Function. The label shut up shop at the end of 2011, and the recent fabric 69 mix—which featured two Jealous God tracks—was the final Sandwell District transmission (the Sandwell-affiliated Wherenext? Tumblr has also been deleted).

JL01 comes in Clear Vinyl with printed sleeve Booklet and Mix CD

WAR BUNKER

Behold this amazing and once-secret war bunker in Konjic, Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has now become a billion dollar art gallery. Formerly used to house Yugoslavia’s Communist leadership, this u-shaped underground labyrinth is dug deep in to a mountain just miles outside Sarajevo. For now the bunker is used only on a biennial basis, but it will hopefully become a more permanent gallery space in this small, unsuspecting Eastern Bloc town.
