This past September in a Gothic Revival church in Los Angeles, photographer Renee Parkhurst presented a new set of work titled PURE. The exhibition focused on “the natural push and pull of [humanity’s] connection to purity and wickedness, lightness and darkness.” The striking images were a colorful journey through different topographies, settings and backdrops, all which explored Parkhurst’s interest in how we evolve from the stages of birth, and elements that play a crucial role to bring us to our animalistic ways. The emotions and symbolism running through the pieces include temptation, desire, sexuality, survival, hunger, love, lust, greed and innocence.
Fast forward to January 2019, and we notice a few images popping up from Parkhurst herself as well as PURE subject/model Geneva Jacuzzi. Being taken by the photos from the original exhibition as well as these new images, we reached out to Ms. Parkhurst to find out what they were. We discover they are outtakes from the PURE shoot and there are several others which have not yet seen the light of day. This bring us to right now - The Brvtalist is pleased to present these rare and unseen images and outtakes from PURE. . Thank you to Ms. Parkhurst for allowing us to show these great works.
