PREMIERE + REVIEW: Shinoby & Daniela Mata - “La Piel Como Imagen Desmembrada”

The Brvtalist is proud to present  “La Piel Como Imagen Desmembrada”, a DVD-project of Verona based DJ and electronic musician Shinoby and a visual and tattoo artist, Daniela Mata.

Omar Contri is an Italian DJ, ISTHEWAY label owner and electronic sound producer, whose style can be defined by the sounds of techno, acid and electro. He likes to unexpectedly mix different music genres, creating new and unique experiences. As his alias Shinoby, Omar worked with such artists as Helena Hauff, DMX Krew, Frak, Unit Moebius and many more. As a DJ, his works were highlighted by Inverted Audio, Hypnotic Groove and other medias. Omar Contri also composes and curates movie soundtracks, which helps defines his role to the following project.

You can definitely see a strong connection between electronic music and contemporary art in Omars’ works, as his last DVD-project (ISTHEWAY.TV002) was screened at ZAZ Gallery in Times Square (New York City) during the lockdown.

Daniela Mata was born in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina where she was taught as an engraver at the Universidad del Museo Social Argentino. In her recent works, Daniela explores different kind of media and focusses on the intent of developing an image that is defined by the idea of movement. She crosses video-art and performance with the field of science. Experimenting with materials and incorporating live organisms into her works, such as blood, natural fibers, saliva, etc. in coexistence with synthetic materials, is how it’s spread the gestation of her own skins.  The body that shapes Daniela’s work invokes the individual. Visceral and intimate images, which grow as a rhizome; images that multiply, intertwine, and overflow. Each piece emerges alive, and because of that, stands emancipated from the artist gesture.

“La Piel Como Imagen Desmembrada” (translated from Spanish as “The Skin as a Dismembered Image”) is an audiovisual artistic project that will be released in DVD format on the 19th of December. It’s a 6:30 minute short film with a visual performance, narrative in Italian language and a soundtrack.

As the artist describes, this project is crossed by fragments of real skins that had been cultivated in order to make an image able to transform itself through time.

The main idea of the following project is to show the connection and unity of the humans, with an example of dismemberment of different skins and its common nature, which manifests within the long time periods. It is the opposite of the concept of individualism. On the other hand, it shows every human being as a part of a big collective eternal movement. Shinoby also highlights the importance and the uniqueness of the physical format of the audiovisual artistic projects in the era of digitalization which is why the previous and the forthcoming work are released in DVD format. Watch the film on the YouTube channel of the artist Daniela Mata and pre-order the release on Bandcamp.

“La Piel Como Imagen Desmembrada” will be out on December 19th in DVD format. The soundtrack will be available for free download.
