Patriarchy - Video Premiere + Q&A

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new video from Patriarchy. This is a double header premiere off the recently released Reverse Circumcision remix LP (Dero Arcade) (featuring remixes by ADULT., Light Asylum, Geneva Jacuzzi, John Fryer (This Mortal Coil), Drab Majesty, Xavier Swafford (3teeth), Rhys Fulber, Bon Harris (Nitzer Ebb) & Second Skin). Today we are thrilled to present this extended piece which features “He Took It Out (John Fryer Remix)” AND “Hell Was Full (ADULT. Remix)”. The two legendary acts bring their iconic sounds to Patriarchy’s twisted synth-pop, mutant wave transmissions. The band is also set to play the official RE-OPENING of The Lash in Los Angeles (also The Brvtalist’s first home venue!) and ahead of the show we speak with Patriarchy’s master mind, LA based artist, filmmaker and musician Actually Huizenga (see below).

The Brvtalist: So the lash reopening party is Friday. How are you feeling about your first show back after all this time?!

Patriarchy: I'm so excited that most humans would call it inappropriate, Libidinous really! Tbh, I actually already played my first live- audience show a couple of weeks ago- an outdoor Bubbles/ HardeMan rave out in San Bernardino county (Inland Empire) at a Motorcycle bar. But this is my first actual club show- and one of the first in Los Angeles proper that I know of. The Lash is an underground habitat. I guess they styled this venue after an underground metro station in Berlin? I thought The Lash was styled after a new wave butcher shop or morgue. However you look at it, the place is fun and they are open to presenting questionable/"provocative" artists like me.

TB: You're also revealing a new drummer. Tell us about it.

My live shows are always evolving, and the new incarnation came about accidentally after I hired a demolition and junk removal guy off craigslist.

P: He is known as The Drummer. After he helped me dispose of some burnt up trash in Malibu (to clear space for my "Bottom of the Pops" live stream events during quarantine), I found him so intriguing and talented (even beyond his janitorial genius)...that I invited him to play in Patriarchy, and I fired all the other band mates .

TB: Today we're premiering a video for the John Fryer + ADULT. remixes. Talk about the about the song(s) and video.

P: John Fryer chose "He Took It Out" to remix and gave it a little Fad Gadget spin- since he knows how much I adore Tovey. Also- John Fryer freaking produced Fad Gadget, so.. I am in heaven just typing about this. ADULT. chose the Patriarchy classic "Hell Was Full," and took it to a dancey dark space which I love- and you know it is perfect for a quarantine sex party. Everything just fell into place- and into the mud.

For the live stream, I decided to start the super spreader sex event with John's mix and wait for the Los Angeles Police Department to come and bust it as soon as the ADULT. remix faded in. Since these songs are so hot, it really wasn't hard to get the cops involved. Now I am only a little bit canceled- but at least I had an amazing soundtrack behind me while I got arrested!

TB: Now that shows are slowly coming back, what are some things you hope might change after the long pause?

P: I selfishly hope that Patriarchy will change into a more popular band. Hahhahahahha. I want to finally get a booker for an American and European tour. I may be dying, so I really want that. Seneca says we are dying every day.

So yes, That is my selfish genie lamp answer, but of course I should say something nicer but I am late for band practice.

TB: What's coming up next or anything else you want to mention.

P: I have been working on an amazing new album which started in the quarantine and is almost ready to attack! It is all about sex and death- everyone's favorite pastimes.
