Lisbon, August 2022 - Multi-instrumentalist and music producer KAPP releases, on September 22nd, their debut single, “Burning Lips”. Brazilian living in London for almost two decades, they present Electronic Body Music with a splash of Electro and Industrial elements to the audience, the result of his years as bassist in indie rock bands and electronic music as a DJ, with “devotion” as a central theme. The music video, produced between Brazil and Colombia, illustrates this feeling.
“The song is about devotion. Devotion to doing what the body you live in is demanding you to conquer, not because you want to, but because it is essential to your survival. However, when exposed for devotion in an unsafe space, you take the risk of being corrupted by your own blocks and traumas. Once you understand that there is nothing to lose by laying down the rules to define your identity, you must allow devotion and explore every corner of your existence”, says KAPP.
The track starts with a mysterious mood, strong beat and a groovy bassline, then moves on to rhythmic synth grooves, dark textures and syncopated percussion, culminating in a passionate explosion by KAPP's vocals.
In co-production between Brazil and Colombia, the video for “Burning Lips” is directed by Thiago Yoshinaga, a Brazilian based in Bogotá. Between scenes of Kapp recorded at the Jerome club, in São Paulo, and dancers in a studio in the Colombian capital, the work brings devotion and expression as central themes.
“There is an immense difference between enjoying doing something and feeling the need to do something. The urgency of putting something out, even unintentionally, is revealed in surrender and devotion. The video for 'Burning Lips' shows three characters expressing themselves, not because they take pleasure in positioning themselves that way, but because these forms of expression are programmed into their DNA. So it's a matter of survival. Three ways to get out the message the voice inside wants to speak out loud. Three people who are serving their vocation because they have no choice,” defines Kapp.
