The Brvtlaist is pleased to premiere a new track from Minia. "Los Control (Blame The Mono Remix)" comes off the new EP forthcoming on Misguided. Following up its debut release with DLV & KTK, the label now brings us "Lost Control," featuring Vienna based singer Minia. This release blends deep vocals with UK Garage elements and includes remixes from False Persona, Disguised & Fank, DLV, and Blame The Mono. Today we premiere this great remix from Blame The Mono and you can also read our interview with the duo below.
The Brvtalist: Where are you writing from? How has life been on the road as I saw you debuted in a few new places/countries recently?
Blame The Mono: Currently writing from Brittany in France where we’re about to play at a festival. We have had some intense touring going on the past several weeks - we played our first US show in Los Angeles, and also had some amazing times playing three gigs in Asia. It was thrilling to (re)discover China and to play in Taiwan for the first time, which was a real high note. After having had the opportunity to enjoy the Californian beaches, to hike on the Great Wall and to discover an amazing crowd in Taipei, playing in France tonight really feels like coming back home after a long trip!
TB: Describe a little bit the current direction or evolution of your sound. I think you have always done a nice job of weaving in different elements from the 90's/2000's and keeping it modern.
BTM: The music we produce is shaped by what we enjoy playing in our DJ sets. So recently it's turned a little more towards drivey techno with loopy basslines, some 2000-esque stabs and crunchier upfront drums. We have kept our trademark usage of vocals and still give lots of attention to mixdowns so the lowend keeps your club-goer always happy. To continue having fun and because a BTM track usually goes all over the place we like to switch it up, incorporating dubstep, garage or electro breaks into our tracks.
TB: What is your relationship with Misguided and how do you identify with the label?
BTM: We were super excited when Danny told us he was working on this new project. It’s a big achievement and commitment for an artist to start a label, and Danny being a really good bloke, we were happy to see him getting to this point. We guess that he’s probably gone through the same kind of artistic questioning as us, and saw the dead-end that the pursuit of the harder sound could lead to. We perceive Misguided as a great platform to support a shift towards something that remains musical, sexy and groovy but still slaps. Something we identify with ourselves! The mix of psy FX, bouncy basslines and hardgroove elements on the first EP from KTK and Danny was super refreshing and clicked with us (damn we’ve rinsed that Flamma Magica track…). It feels great to have that like-mindedness, to be able to dabble in many genres and not stick rigorously to one style. It’s also super cool that the releases are pressed, and to see all the effort put into making nice-looking and sounding records. Such labels are pretty rare today, and we really feel at home here.
TB: Tell us a little bit about the remix you made for Minia on her new EP.
BTM: The first time we heard the original we knew there was a great twist to be made on that poppy atmospheric garage vibe. We hadn’t had a go at making basslines in a while at that time and had tremendous fun with the sound design. We love that each remixer on this EP took a very different direction, Disguised and FANK went deep drum and bass style for instance. Again, we support this musical versatility, and all other 3 tracks on the release really break the mould, making for a dope all-around package!
TB: What's coming up next?
BTM: We can’t wait to celebrate this EP at the release party that is happening in a few days in Vienna. Our adventure with Misguided has just started and it’s gonna be the perfect occasion to kick it off! We’re looking forward to seeing the musical path Danny will follow with this project.
Thanks for having us and hope you’ll enjoy our remix!
