The third installment of The Brvtalist Video Week comes from Los Angeles-based artist Jenny Sayaka Nono. Over the past couple of years, her short films, advertisements and other video works have struck a massive chord with us and we have been mesmerized by her output. Sayaka's videos are striking, subversive and examine social and cultural issues from body dysmorphia to deep depression and paranoia. Her visuals and sound components drill deep into your psyche and unlock the horrors of everyday, modern society. We are pleased present her latest video, The Night Needs You, which is an incredible short film that explores the terrifying realities of being all alone with yourself.
Back in February, Sayaka's works Burn, Trapped and Suffer were also included in Jealous God Issue No. 10 (featuring music by Phase Fatale) and we are excited to report that fans will have the opportunity to view these pieces in person at this year's Berlin Atonal music and arts festival next month. Sayaka's videos will screen on Friday, August 26th, as part of Jealous God's presentation of Optimistic Decay, which will also feature performances by Silent Servant + Phase Fatale (Live), December (Live), 51717 (Live), Champagne Mirrors (Live), Alexey Volkov (Live) and Kerri LeBon. This will be a monumental night for the Jealous God label and we look forward to seeing it in person. The stills below are taken from Burned, Trapped and Suffer. *click to enlarge
Also just released, Berlin Atonal has now revealed the full festival schedule and features 5 days of programming unlike any other event in the world. Expect one-off performances from the likes of Drew McDowall, Orphx + JK Flesh, These Hidden Hands, Raime, Croation Amor (presenting Love Means Taking Action), Donoto Dozzy + Lory D and UF (Kerridge + Oake), just to name a few. You can find the schedule below and look for more features coming soon on The Brvtalist.
We would like to thank Jenny Sayaka Nono for her amazing work and we look forward to more from the artist. For more information, please visit Vimeo. For more on Berlin Atonal, visit the official site.
