Raum - Systemic, Malignant, Global (A+W) *Video Premiere*

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new video from Raum. Berlin label Aufnahme + Wiedergabe has recently released a EP by Belgian musician Raum (Orphan Swords, Figure section, Antibody). The artist has just issued a new homemade music video for the track, "Systemic, Malignant, Global" featuring maverick Australian fashion designer and drag performer Shayli Harrison. The video is "a metaphor about the moral turmoil and utter decadence of our times, a world that's been taken in hostage by the world of finance, economic slavery, absurd consumerism, shallowness, mandatory technological advancement and a lethal obsession for security. It was great shooting the video with my insanely creative friend Shayli. Moments with her are always dirt fun, genuine and intense. Some kind of antidote to our sell out times if you want." says Raum.

Pick up the EP now on BANDCAMP.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new video from MERVH. The Turkish-born, Warsaw-based producer comes forth for her debut EP, Selem, on Poland’s Behind The Stage (BTS). The release includes three originals and three remixes from from Violent, HATELOVE, and Sekulahr which traverse moods, emotions and more for six tracks of powerful industrial and techno fit for the floor or a mind trip at home. The EP was inspired by loss and you can feel the tension, anger and grief throughout the record. Today we premiere the video for the excellent “The Death Was Near” by Vitia Aberamok. To mark the release, we also present an interview with MERVH about her inspiration, the EP and more (see below).

Selem is out March 18th and you can pick it up on the label’s BANDCAMP.

The Brvtalist: Before we get to the EP, tell us a little about your music/creative background?

MERVH: I think music has always been in my life. My aunt is music teacher and she bought to me my first guitar when I was 10. Until I started to collage I was performing with alternative bands. Than I met with Electronic music and my real career started as a DJ in 2018 in Warsaw. I had no idea what type of genre was fitting on me. I just knew I was feeling so powerful when I was playing higher bpms. As my career progressed I completely focused on industrial, dark sounds. Got inspiration from Paula Temple,SNTS,Rebekah and it helped me to find my own style. When I started to producing my own music I still prefer to use same sounds but I wanna add to my music my emotions and feelings and sometimes I like trying to produce different genres as well.

TB: Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your debut EP.

M: Definitely inspiration was my Mother. She died nearly end of 2020. It was the worst day of my life and I decided to do my EP project the day I lost her. I think I wanted to do something permanent on her behalf and make her proud because she was my biggest supporter during my career.

TB: Was making the EP therapeutic in some ways?

M: For my situation it was therapeutic. I think I was throwing my sadness, pain and anger that my loss brought to me with my music. I wanted to produce related tracks and show my emotions somehow with this project. And I had a purpose so whole this EP progress definitely worthed!

TB: You're originally from Turkey but now live in Warsaw. How do you find the techno scene/community there and do you think it will come back strong after the pandemic?

MERVH - Selem (BTS, 2021)

M: As I said my career started in Warsaw and it was a luck for me. Warsaw has really good and old techno scenes and audience is quite a lot too. I had a chance to be part of very good parties before pandemic and I hope everything will be fine asap! And yes I'm sure Warsaw will come back stronger after this whole thing.

TB: What's coming up next?

M: I completed to my first important goal and now I feel very proud and refreshed. My plan from now on is to reach a good audience with this project and of course sign few more succesful EP in the future.

Kill Shelter and Antipole - Burn Bright

Following the runaway success of their debut outing “Raise the Skies”, Kill Shelter and Antipole have just launched a second single from the forthcoming album, A Haunted Place, entitled “Burn Bright”. The track is a powerful fusion of both artists’ sound and weaves seamlessly through post-punk, cold wave and beyond for a work that is as haunting as it is infectious. The collaboration between Kill Shelter (UK) and Antipole (Norway) explores the theme of addiction and its impact on the human psyche and “Burn Bright” is as equally at home on the dance floor as it is on a domestic turntable.

“Lyrically, Burn Bright is full of layers for something so deceptively simple. It deals with themes of addiction in all its forms but it also has a strong element of salvation. Like all the tracks on “A Haunted Place”, the lyrics come from a very personal place and hopefully it’s something that some people can identify with along the way.” Pete Burns - Kill Shelter

“Burn Bright is another one of our more upfront songs taken from the album. It has a dark energy but there are also elements of melancholic fragility caught within the music itself. I think you can really hear the interplay between our guitar styles - there is a natural tension as they interweave throughout the track which I really like.” Karl Morten Dahl - Antipole

A Haunted Place will be released March 26th on Manic Depression Records and is available to pre-order on vinyl and CD via Manic Depression Records.

The Limited Edition vinyl variants sold out in a matter of days on the artists’ Bandcamp pages.

To support the single release, the Burn Bright video, again with post-production by Pete Burns, is premiering on Yami Spechie’s YouTube channel today on 4 pm (CET) and can be seen by clicking ont he image below...
