Katie Gallagher - "The Danger of Tears" (F/W 2020)

It’s safe to say that since the inception of The Brvtalist, we have been fans of independent fashion designer Katie Gallagher. From our early interview to celebrating 10 years, Gallagher has consistently embodied what it means to be an independent designer and has pushed her collections forward while staying true to her brand. Now comes her latest offering, F/W 2020, “The Danger of Tears”, which combines classic Hollywood elegance, minimalism and her signature dark, haunting spirit.

From the designer:

"The Danger of Tears" is my first fully designed and conceptualized collection in Los Angeles versus New York City so, it was a tough one for me. I had a lot of setbacks regarding logistical aspects of developing a collection as well as a lot of emotional difficulty...but it turned out to be one of my favorite collections and one of my best produced collections in terms of construction quality. In addition to the new FW20 styles, I also upgraded pieces from past collections that have become Katie Gallagher staples which was interesting to revisit. Lastly, one of my biggest fears was cleared when I found the right artists to work with me in LA to make it all reality as I’ve become so used to in NYC.

“The Danger of Tears” showed at the Co-Laboratory in NYC 2/9-2/16 and will be showing in Paris during Paris Fashion Week, 2/28-3/6.

Years of Denial - You Like It When It Hurts (Orphx Remix)

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Years of Denial. One of our favorite albums of the last year, Suicide Disco (Veyl), now gets a remix treatment from some of the most celebrated names across the industrial, techno and post-punk spectrums. Today we present the Orphx remix of “You Like It When It Hurts”, which takes the original and infuses the Canadian duo’s signature metallic, industrialized sound to create a tension building piece which beautifully catalyzes with Years of Denial’s dark romanticism. The release also includes remixes from Silent Servant, Alexey Volkov and Broken English Club. Definitely a strong companion to an already smash album.

Out on March 16th vinyl and digital with a limited run of transparent vinyl as well. Pick yours up via Veyl at: https://veyl.bandcamp.com/album/suicide-disco-remixes

Also be sure to catch Years of Denial (live) on March 14th in Munich, DE for New Romantic x The Brvtalist at club Rote Sonne. It will be our first showcase event in Munich and we are thrilled to be at such a great club along with Velvet May (live), P-T2 and yours truly of course. RSVP here and see flyer below.

Overlook & Karim Maas - "Chalk" (Standards & Practices)

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Overlook & Karim Maas. After an extended hiatus, Standards & Practices returns with their first release of 2020 and the label’s first compilation. Much like the ethos of the imprint, Out of Practice Vol. 1 brings together friends and allies across the electronic music spectrum for a massive release which moves through different genres and sounds while still resembling similar DNA. Today we premiere, “Chalk” , an ultra-heavy breaks track from veteran’s Overlook & Karim Maas which hits deep and razes everything in its path. Also appearing on the compilation are Stave & Grebenstein, VSK, Todd Mattei, Pessimist as well as “7th Recording 29”, an ambient piece which represents Jonathan Krohn’s first recorded collaboration with long-time friend and associate Benjamin Mjolsness since their work together in the group Male. Overall this is a strong release from the label with a unique voice and exception cast of contributors.

Peter Kirn - "What We Forged Now" Video Premiere

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new video from Peter Kirn. The U.S.-born, Berlin-based artist has been very active in his adoptive home with ongoing collaborations orbiting Wunderblock’s Moscow HQ. Chameleonic multitasker, electronic music composer and technologist, he has imagined a densely-packed, driving, dark form of cinematic techno experiments for his new EP, Objectors. The extended release mixes dreamlike harmonies and polyrhythms with aggressive, speedy subterranean techno, packed with unapologetically dirty and complex noises.  Today we present “What We Forged Now” a relentless, celestial storm of abstract techno and extraterrestrial electronics. The video by Perceptual Automaton brings otherworldly visuals to this powerful composition.

The EP also features two strong remixes, one from Brvtalist favorite OCD and the other from Ukranian Danny Skripp. Pick yours up now from Wunderblock Records at: https://wunderblock.bandcamp.com/album/objectors-wr088

New Brvtalism No. 219 - Olivia

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from Olivia. The Polish artist initially became known as a resident of the world renown Unsound Festival and a leading figure of the Krakow underground through the We Are Radar party collective. She quickly rose to international prominence with her razor sharp mixes and productions. Inspired by the sounds of the 1980’s, Olivia journeys through angular acid, loose-limbed electro, futuristic Motor City techno, concrete-clad industrial music, surging EBM, twisted Italo, glacial cold wave and metallic new wave.

Today, Olivia has her hands in many projects, collectives and live performance projects. These include Morskie Oko (a hybrid live/DJ project with Chino and Steffan Bennemann), Radiation 30376 (a live show with Chino that debuted at Unsound 2019) and Chrono Bross, a collaborative initiative with Kinzo Chrome. She also recently joined the Oramics collective, a Polish initiative supporting the visibility of women and non-binary artists.

Olivia’s work quickly caught our attention and we are thrilled to have this entry to our series which puts her unique sound and technical prowess on full display. For more visit Resident Advisor and follow Olivia on Instagram.

The Plan V/A Premieres (Overture Militia, Inc.)

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere two tracks from the upcoming various artists release, The Plan (Overture Militia, Inc.). Today we present MMMD - “Az Almok Itt Ernek Véget (rész 4)” and Miracle of Love - “White Sun Over Our Children - Exhale 22”. Both compositions represent the various sonic influences and sounds you will encounter on this massive 18 track compilation which comes out to over 2 hours of music from across the experimental, industrial, power electronics, noise and ambient realms.

The tenth release from Roman post-industrial imprint Overture Militia, Inc., The Plan is a massive compendium of some of the most interesting names from across the post-industrial community. Divided into three distinct movements, The Plan traverses some of the most powerful genres and themes across the sonic spectrums and we were instant drawn to its dynamic universe. The artwork by MLTFNK Studio, was created in order to graphically translate the sound performance of the release into a sort of a military action plan.

Out February 24th, 2020 on digital and limited cassette. Order yours at: https://overturemilitia.bandcamp.com/album/the-plan
