As one of the founding members of East Village Radio, she managed the station during its pirate days and began collecting obscure and long forgotten gems that fell somewhere between the Cold Wave, Post Punk and Minimal Synth genres.

German based designer Damir Doma’s latest collection just hit the runways of Paris and he delivers yet again. We love the white monochrome looks and the attention to detail is astounding as always. Doma continues to show why he is a modern master of minimalism.

Solaris (1972) Soundtrack Release

Fans of Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1972 sci-fi masterpiece “Solaris” can finally rejoice as this month sees the first ever release of the film’s groundbreaking soundtrack. 

Created by electronic music pioneer Eduard Artemiev, the film’s soundtrack utilizes the unbelievably rare ANS synthesizer. Art Info has more on this amazing device. 

According to the writer Max Cole, who wrote what appears to be the most comprehensive history of the ANS in the English language, the synthesizer took 20 years to build and only two were ever constructed. It was a passion project for an inventor named Evgeny Murzin, who risked arrest for his electronic inventions (at the time, you could not purchase electronic components in the USSR), and named his machine after Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin, a controversial musical figure around the dawn of the 20th century who developed atonal music systems based on what appears to be occult beliefs.

Both the film and the soundtrack were way ahead of the curve when first released in the early 1970’s. The fact that the soundtrack has never seen a proper release is dumbfounding, but thanks to Superior Viaduct, we can enjoy Artemiev’s compositions on this true gem of a machine. It could be one of the last times we hear something from the ANS on this scale. 

The Beast Within: The Making of Alien (1979)

Published on the occasion of the exhibition Linder: Femme / Objet at Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris. The book comprises of 200 works drawn from four decades of practice, this major retrospective exhibition catalogue has been produced in close collaboration with the artist, and is inspired by the format of a ‘fanzine’. Linder is one of the iconic protagonists of British late-1970s punk. Her artistic practice has always covered art, music, dance and fashion and unites various media, such as collage, photography, video and performance. With her uncompromising feminist approach, she questions socially coded ideas about gender and the sexual marketing of the female body. Since the beginning of her career Linder has drawn from the inexhaustible source of porn and glossy magazines, which she puts together in Dada-like collages.
