GO HERE NOW - The Lash, Downtown Los Angeles.

For a city as diverse and expansive as Los Angeles, you have to really try hard to be in the know about cool shit. You want to go to an after hours dance party at an undisclosed warehouse location? You need to get on the mailing list for VSSL. You’re not going to just stumble upon that. You have a better chance of stumbling upon The Lash in Downtown LA, and that is actually really great news. It’s been a long time since I walked into a bar and left at the end of the night feeling giddy. The minimal aesthetic, which feels very Eastern Euro, was designed by Atelier Projects – an “interdisciplinary creative consulting studio.” There’s no kitschy theme or pretentious bartenders. Every Monday, LA band Youth Code (check them out on Cvlt Nation) plays records and on any other given night you can find other locals like Ariel Pink at the DJ booth. On the weekends you’ll most likely hear genres like dark wave, 80s goth, and an assortment of electronic music. You can find DJ’s around the city playing similar records but the youthful artsy crowd at The Lash makes it all feel fresh again. The drinks are reasonable and the staff is awesome. It’s not everyone’s thing but that’s the point – there’s finally something else.

Since the release of Baphometic Chaosium, L.S.O.D. have quickly become one of the most talked about black metal bands in America and abroad. Good time to check them out before they hit the road with Melachesh in June.

The Weimar Touch at MoMA, April 3 - May 6, 2013

From MoMA:

The Weimar Touch, the second annual collaboration between MoMA’s Department of Film and the Deutsche Kinemathek (Museum fur Film und Fernsehen), Berlin, features some 30 films, made between the end of the Weimar Republic and 1959, that were directly influenced—through style, subject matter, and personnel—by the golden age of German cinema (roughly 1920 to February 1933). The exhibition examines how films from many countries drew from the themes, aesthetic ideas, and talented filmmakers and crews that distinguished Weimar cinema, ranging from social cynicism and a recognition of the cruelty of the world, to laughter about mistaken identities and the sophisticated manipulation of light and shadow (both literal and metaphorical). The exhibition includes a mix of well-known classics and recently restored treasures, some of which have not been seen in decades. A version of this exhibition opened at the Berlin International Film Festival in February of this year.
