The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a the new single and video from RENU. “STUTTER STEP” is the filmic rework of an original composition that won the international EXP___ contest in October 2020 - commissioned by the Goethe-Institut Chicago and Institut Français Midwest. The track is a haunting, powerful piece of cinematic electronics fused with glitch hop and more.
RENU (Renu Hossain) is a queer British-Bengali, Berlin and London-based composer, producer, tabla player, and curator. A percussionist for Grace Jones, State of Bengal, Fun_da_mental, MIKA, Alabama 3, and Tunde Jegede, she learned from percussion masters in India, Brazil, and Cuba, later on composing for theatre, film, and dance performances, as well as hosting her own events in London and Berlin.
RENU released They Dance in the Dark late 2017 to critical acclaim by The Quietus, Art Forum Magazine, BBC Radio 6 and more. In 2020 RENU released a celestial soundscape album, The Happening, in response to Covid19.
