The Brvtalised is pleased to present a new video from MSEA. The Reykjavík based producer, vocalist, and composer brings us “Winter Bodies”, an elegant piece which features her rich textures, whispered melodies and dreamlike soundscapes. The artist explores the boundaries between beauty and discomfort, crafting a unique world of sound and story which falls between synth, pop, folk and beyond for a undefinable experience. The track comes off her new album I Turned Into A Familiar Shape, out now on Icelandic label MYRKFÆLNI, which has become one of our favorite imprints to watch.
The video for “Winter Bodies” is created by Dean Kemball and Kinnat Sóley, and captures the MSEA’s evocative performance, vocals and stylings in a hypnotic and enchanting way. The whole album was written during a personal chapter of domestic violence and chronicles the different stages of abuse: denial, acknowledgement and acceptance. MSEA also had this to say about the track:
Winter Bodies is more than an ode to Tom Waits’ ‘Green Grass’. The song came about while I was sitting in my bedroom, the heat blasting. I had just gotten out of this relationship where I didn’t feel good for quite a long time. I was thinking about all of our flakey dry skin that was probably on the floor and on the pillows, how he kind of remained. I was feeling heavy – from the winter, from the relationship, but I had left and it felt serene.
I Turned Into A Familiar Shape is out now on cassette and digital. Pick yours up now on Bandcamp.
