INSTALLATIONS, MEDIA ARTS AND PERFORMANCE
With exclusive compositions by
Alva Noto, Byetone, Frank Bretschneider
and Kangding Ray
German record label Raster-Noton presents, in celebration of its 20th anniversary and in collaboration with ZKM, the »white circle«, an acoustic-architectural space designed as an audiovisual installation. Four artists of the label have developped an exclusive audiovisual composition: Alva Noto, Byetone, Frank Bretschneider, and Kangding Ray. Each composition presents an independent, self-contained concept of the respective artist. All works are based on the idea of ambient music, a music that wants to make tangible the acoustic space as well as the visual stimulus.
TENDENCIES - BELGIAN ART IN THE DIGITAL AGE #1
22/09 - 02/10/2016
with Elias Heuninck, Jerry Galle, Dries Depoorter, Sébastian Lacomblez, Félix Luque & Damien Gernay, Frederik De Wilde
The Tendencies exhibition unites contrasting narratives of some of the most interesting and intriguing voices in Belgian arts. Tendencies presents artworks that ‘use’ or ‘comment upon’ the latest evolutions in science and technology. To establish a unique platform for the exchange of ideas from the area of contemporary art and science in a digital age will inspire the annual selection of six artists. By presenting Tendencies in the Center for Fine Arts, Tendencies has the ambition to narrow the historical rift between contemporary arts at large and different movements in media arts or hybrid arts.
STARTS PRIZES 2016
22/09 - 02/10/2016
Science, technology and arts (STARTS for short) limn a nexus at which insightful observers have identified extraordinarily high potential for innovation. And innovation is precisely what’s called for if we’re to master the social, ecological and economic challenges that Europe will be facing in the near future. An increasing number of high tech companies, world-wide, assert that, in addition to scientific and technological skills, the critical skills needed for innovation to happen and to be of value for society are skills such as creativity rooted in artistic practices.
In recognition of this development the European Commission has launched the STARTS initiative – Innovation at the nexus of Science, Technology and the Arts. This prize rewards artists that propagate scientific and technological knowledge and skills among the general public and trigger innovative processes. The prize awards artistic works that influence or change the way we look at technology and, on the other hand, very promising forms of collaboration between the private sector and the world of art and culture.
