Charles Atlas: Turning
“Turning”, 2012 (76 min)
“You Are My Sister”, 2006 (3 min)
Human Resources presents Turning, the concert film documentary of the critically acclaimed tour of Europe by Antony and the Johnsons and Charles Atlas during the fall of 2006. Described by Antony as “some of the most significant work of my career,” the documentary pairs Antony’s songs and Atlas’ unfurling video portraiture of 13 transgender women to explore themes of identity, transcendence, and the revelation of a revolutionary feminine essence. Accompanying this screening is Atlas’ short film You Are My Sister a video visualization of the song of the same name by Antony & the Johnsons. Antony’s haunting anthem is paired with Atlas’ processed images of thirteen “NYC Beauties,” whose close-up portraits turn in hypnotic motion.
